"Mr. Gnaw knows!?" Devon panicked as Tiffany was explaining the events of what happened when she was in Tom's apartment. "This is fucking bad indeed!" Devon paced around the apartment, figuring out what to do.
At the same time, Tiffany was trying her best to hold back tears. The very thought of losing her best friend is definitely soul-crushing to her. "We need to come up with something or you're gonna be killed!"
"I know, I know!" Devon hastened to try and come up with a rational plan to evade the situation.
Tiffany gave a look that meant that she had an idea. "What if you pretend that you left and when they see that you're no longer here, they can finally leave and you can come back!" She admired this plan so much that she was hoping that Devon would agree.
Devon thought it over for a while but denied it. "Can't. If I did come back, they'll notice one way or another and will surely kill me. It was a good idea in theory." He tried to make her feel a bit better. However, that didn't help out.
"I don't want to lose you too. I already can't see my brother, because he denied me visitations, and my mom is, well... frustrating." Devon chuckled at that.
"Well," Devon began. "I guess this is where we part." Devon normally held in emotions like sadness very well, but this time, he didn't want Tiffany to feel alone. He began to tear up at the thought of leaving his surrogate sister. Sure, she wasn't the best roommate, but at lest she was there for him when he needed it and vise-versa.
"I will miss you, Devon." Tiffany said through choked sobs.
Devon only nodded. And they both gave each other a very long hug. One that lasted ten minutes. They will never see each other again, so they want to remember each other well.
After that, Devon quickly hurried to pack some things. He was digging through the papers cluttering his apartment and pulled out a rent statement from Manitoba Housing. He handed that to Tiffany. "That's how much the rent is. If Welfare can't deal with it anymore, then it's your responsibility to take care of it.
   Tiffany only nodded.
Devon had a big, black backpack and packed two two-liters of Mountain Dew, a small stack of paper, some pens, a large duster coat, a costume top hat, tea, a bag of sugar, a teapot, teacup, tablespoon, sunglasses and his books; 'Silverwing', 'Sunwing', 'Firewing' and 'Alice in Wonderland.' He turned to Tiffany and gave her strict instructions.
"One," he began to list. "Do not get rid of my teapots. They are sentimental to me. Two, do not get rid of my laptop. You are free to use it to check up on my Wizard101 every now and then, but other than that, no need to touch anything else on it or sell it."
Tiffany only nodded some more as he continued.
"Three, if any of the Manitoba Housing staff ask, tell them you're house sitting and I'm on a European cruise. or something. Four, my comics also stay. You are free to read them, but don't get rid of them. Finally, check up on my DeviantART and leave journal pages like I'm on hiatus for a long time."
Devon buttoned up his duster coat, zipped his backpack and headed for the door. He stopped at the door and turned to Tiffany.
"Did you want to accompany me outside?"

They were outside through the left side door. Devon and Tiffany gave one last hug to each other as they tried to hold back torrents of tears.
Devon began to put on the backpack under the coat and scaled the wall with the claws on his thumbs, wingtips and feet. He could hear Tiffany cry as well as the scratching sounds of his claws against stone. He couldn't stand to hear people cry, so he lowered his ears to try and focus on the stone scratchings. As soon as he made it to the top, he looked at the horizon.
The night sky was being brightened by the light of day at a snail's pace. He looked up at the winter dawn and saw only one single star, twinkling in the dark blue sky. The star seemed to beckon him, as if he should follow it.
Devon decided to take to the star. He began to make a running start, hoping he could fly with the luggage he has on. With a leap off the building, he began to take flight. He flew off into the sky, never to be seen by Tiffany again.
